Indonesian bus drivers face drug tests for Eid

Jakarta : Ahead of the upcoming festival of Eid al-Fitr, bus drivers in pre-dominantly Islamic Indonesia are being made to undergo tests for drugs and alcohol consumption and general fitness to ensure safety of millions visiting home for the festivities.

In 2011, over 16 million Indonesians visited hometowns for Eid. This year police expect about 5.6 million people to travel by road for the festival.

The health mjnistry is conducting the drug and alcohol tests to boost safety of the people tarvelling home for the festival, reported Xinhua citing Indonesian media Tuesday. Most of Indonesia’s 238 million people are Muslims, making it the world’s most populous Muslim country.
