Navy chief to be Myanmar’s new vice president

Nay Pyi Taw : Myanmar’s parliament Wednesday approved Admiral Nyan Tun, commander-in-chief of the navy, as the new vice president to succeed U Tin Aung Myint Oo, who has resigned for health reasons.

Nyan Tun was nominated by the military parliamentarians group as a candidate for the post of vice president left by U Tin Aung Myint Oo, reported Xinhua.

There are two vice presidents in Myanmar’s new civilian government. The other is Sai Mauk Kham, a political leader.

Nyan Tun was commander-in-chief of the navy since 2008.
