Karnataka is safe: Gadkari

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari said Thursday that Karnataka remained a safe place for people from the northeast.

“Karnataka is totally safe. Not a single incident has happened there, but because of fear a lot of northeast students are leaving Karnataka,” he said here.

“I have discussed this issue with my (BJP) chief minister. We will protect all the northeast students and citizens (in the state),” he said.

A large number of students and professionals from the northeast fled Bangalore Wednesday following rumours they would be attacked to avenge the ethnic violence in Assam.
