Kolkata : The West Bengal government Tuesday announced that it would provide increment to those professors of government colleges who have undergone higher studies such as M.Phil and PhD under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) of the University Grants Commission.
“On the basis of recommendations of the UGC, we have decided to give compensation under the CAS scheme to those professors of government colleges and government sponsored colleges who have undergone higher education. It will be effective from Nov 1,” said Amit Mitra, state finance minister.
According to Mitra, professors of government universities, government colleges and government aided colleges will be able to avail this CAS.
“Professors of universities, government colleges and government-aided colleges, assistant librarians, and physical education personnel can avail this increment. It is basically a reward for those academics who, while working, have gone for higher education such as M.Phil and PhD.”
Mitra added that the state government wants professors of government colleges to increase their education qualifications so that they can offer better quality of education to the students.
