Bio-access soon to Bombay High Court

By IANS,

Mumbai : As part of enhancing security measures, the Bombay High Court will soon instal a bio-access system for all advocates and staffers, an official said here Friday.

Initially, all lawyers with minimum five years practice will be allowed to apply for a bio-access card, others would be given the card in stages.

This would obviate the need for physical frisking by security personnel at the entrance of the high court building near Churchgate in South Mumbai.

The new system has been introduced on directions from Chief Justice Mohit Shah.

Bombay High Court Registrar General S.B. Shukre had earlier this month issued a circular inviting all lawyers who have completed five years practice to supply the required information.

Around 2,500 lawyers practice daily in the Bombay High Court. Thousands of litigants throng the court premises daily, posing a security challenge.

All litigants and visitors will continue to go through the existing manual system of security checks and frisking.

The Bombay High Court has benches in Aurangabad, Nagpur and Panaji under its jurisdiction.
