Chidambaram gets into African Development Bank

New Delhi: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has been appointed India’s governor on the board of governors of the African Development Bank, an official statement said Friday.

Chidambaram replaces Pranab Mukherjee, who has become the president. The appointment is effective from Aug 1, the finance ministry said.

Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram has been appointed India’s alternate governor on the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank and African Development Fund, also with effect from Aug 1.

Mayaram replaces R. Gopalan, who retired last month.

The African Development Bank and African Development Fund are aimed at promoting economic and social development in Africa.
