Chennai: Odisha defeated Maharashtra by six wickets to top Group A on better net run rate in the Buchi Babu trophy all India cricket tournament here Friday.

Batting first, holders Maharashtra were bundled out for 110, with left-arm spinner Sudipta Swain taking four wickets.

In reply, Odisha easily achieved the target losing just four wickets.

In Group B, Mumbai batsmen made merry to pile up 366 for nine in their allotted 90 overs against TNCA XI, with the top six batsmen notching 40-plus scores.

Likewise, TNCA President’s XI, thanks to a century by opener K. Dinesh Karthik (137 retd hurt, 193b, 15×4, 3×6), made 387 for five in 90 overs against Saurashtra in a Group C match.

In another Group C encounter, a century by J. Syed Mohammed (100, 152b, 14×4) and a 98-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Wasiqur Rahman (37) carried Assam to 244 all out.

But they conceded five runs to Vidarbha after their batsmen were penalized for running on the pitch.

Abhishek Hegde (107, 183b, 11×4, 2×6) and Sanju Viswanadh (121, 158b, 14×4, 2×6) helped themselves to centuries as Kerala made 387 for nine in 90 overs against Gujarat.

Group C: Assam 244 in 87.5 overs(J Syed Mohammed100, Wasiqur Rahman 37, Gaurav Upadhyay 3 for 46, Siddesh Neral 3 for 38) vs Vidarbha 5 for no loss (Vidarbha were awarded five penalty runs as Assam batsmen were running on the pitch).
