Allay fears of Japanese investors: BJP MP

By IANS,

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tarun Vijay Wednesday urged the government to allay “fears” of Japanese firms about “violent unionism” in view of last month’s incident at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant in Haryana that caused the death of an official.

Referring to Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Osamu Suzuki’s visit to the country, Vijay hoped that it will help boost sentiment of Japanese investors.

Vijay, who is a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, said while the BJP stood for the rights of the workers and better wages for them, violence can never be accepted.

A senior executive was killed and nearly 100 others were injured in the violence at the Manesar plant last month.

“We want to assure our Japanese friends that India remains a safe and a highly secured destination for their investments,” Vijay said in a statement.

He urged the government to take steps to make India more attractive destination for Japanese firms.

“The present global scenario demands more closer cooperation between India and Japan,” Vijay said and added that the potential of Japanese investment in the country was yet to be realised.

During his India visit, Osamu Suzuki met Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Gujart Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
