Srinagar : Mehbooba Mufti, president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wednesday told British High Commissioner James Bevan here that there has to be a positive approach to find a solution to the Kashmir problem.
Mehbooba Mufti told the visiting envoy that the PDP’s Kashmir road map, which has been presented in the shape of its self-rule document, reflected pragmatism and creativity and was anchored in the friendship between India and Pakistan, said a party statement.
“The two countries can obviously not wish each other away and will therefore have to address the mutual problems in the interest of the people of South Asia. Jammu and Kashmir being the main victim of their hostility should obviously emerge as the biggest beneficiary of their friendship,” it said.
Sir James Bevan arrived here Tuesday accompanied by Alex Bamford, first secretary at the high commission in New Delhi.
He met Governor N.N. Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other ministers Tuesday.
