Opposition legislators rushed towards the speaker’s podium and raised anti-government slogans, accusing Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of working covertly to benefit sugar mill owners.

There was pandemonium as legislators from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Congress and Rahstriya Lok Dal rushed towards the speaker holding banners.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to pacify them but failed.

BSP leader Swamy Prasad Maurya accused the government of ignoring sugarcane farmers which, he said, was forcing the farmers to burn their crops in frustration.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan lashed out at the opposition for wasting precious time of the house.

A verbal spat between the ruling and opposition benches led the speaker to adjourn the assembly sine die.
