The ancient Babri mosque built in circa 1527, was demolished on December 6, 1992 by a mob of Hindu fanatics organised by several anti-Muslim groups.

The meeting expressed deep anguish that the said anti-Muslim organizations and their followers, in connivance with the local police and administrative authorities flouted clear historical record, the orders of the Supreme Court of India and the Government of India to carry out the above demolition of an ancient place of worship. Also at that time they organized violent anti-Muslim riots in many cities in India that resulted in much loss of life and property of the Muslim community.

“This dastardly episode is a blot on the secular and democratic structure of the Indian nation,” the statement released after the meeting noted.
“What is most regrettable is that twenty years later the Indian government has not yet brought to trial any of the culprits and their leaders, whom the government’s own enquiry committee, the Liberhan Commission, and the mainstream Indian media has identified repeatedly as complicit in the said crime,” it added.

A resolution passed in the meeting submitted to the Prime Minister of India for correcting the said wrong demanded that the government expeditiously prosecute the pending criminal cases against the identified culprits in a court of law, take up a discussion on the Liberhan Commission Report in the parliament, due compensation to the persons who lost their lives or who were injured in post-demolition violence in Ayodhya and finally assist the Muslim community to reconstruct the mosques, shrines and tombs that were demolished/damaged in Ayodhya.
