Bangladesh home minister calls on Mukherjee

By IANS,

New Delhi: Bangladesh Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir called on President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday and briefed him about his discussions with Indian counterpart Sushilkumar Shinde.

According to an official release, Mukherjee conveyed to Alamgir his appreciation to the Bangladesh government for having chosen him for an honour in connection with his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh.

He also thanked the Bangladesh government for inviting him to visit the country and conveyed that the details would be worked out through diplomatic channels.

Alamgir expressed satisfaction at his discussions with Shinde.

“The home minister conveyed that both sides were hopeful of signing some agreements during the visit to Bangladesh by the Indian Home Minister next month,” the release said.

India and Bangladesh had Wednesday discussed a cluster of bilateral issues and decided to sign a long-negotiated extradition treaty in January during Shinde’s visit to the country.

A joint statement after a meeting between Shinde and Alamgir had said the Revised Travel Agreement as well as the extradition treaty would be finalised and signed in January.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had also met Alamgir and reviewed bilateral relations.
