New Delhi: Zee group chairman Subhash Chandra and managing director Puneet Goenka were Saturday questioned by police in a case filed against two scribes of their TV channel for an alleged Rs.100-crore extortion bid from a Jindal group company.
Chandra and two of his associates came to the Delhi Police crime branch office at 2 p.m. two days after a court here ordered him to join the probe.
A few hours later, his son and Zee group’s managing director Puneet Goenka also reached the police office to join the investigation.
“They were questioned till late night,” a police officer told IANS.
After getting two more days’ of remand of the two Zee journalists, Sudhir Chaudhary and Samir Ahluwalia, police took them to the crime branch office late in the night to bring them face-to-face with Chandra and Goenka.
Chaudhary and Ahluwalia allegedly tried to extort Rs.100 crore from Jindal Power and Steel Ltd. (JPSL) in exchange for not filing news reports linking the firm to the irregular coal blocks allocation.
A court here Thursday granted Chandra and Goenka interim protection against arrest till Dec 14.
Both of them were told to deposit their passport with the investigating officer and join the probe.
Police twice served notice on Chandra and his son in November asking them to join the investigation after the arrest of Chaudhury and Ahluwalia Nov 27 for their alleged bid to extort Rs.100 crore from Congress MP Naveen Jindal’s company.
