Haridwar : Students have a moral duty to do social service after completing education before they take up a career, President Pranab Mukherjee said Sunday.
This will develop a sense of duty towards the society among students and will help in their personality development, the president told a gathering on the occasion of the Devsanskriti University’s convocation.
He praised the university for being social service oriented and for endeavouring to impart moral education along with high levels of academic excellence.
The president gave away 77 doctorate degrees and 32 gold medals to the students. He conferred degrees on 1,370 students.
Writer Narendra Kohali and Marco Fereni, the European pioneer of holistic medicine, were given honorary doctorates.
Describing the university as a modern incarnation of Shanti Niketan, Chancellor Pranav Pandya underscored its efforts to promote self-reliance among students.
He also unveiled the university’s plan to establish rural health centres and a research and development centre.
Also present on the occasion were Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Quarashi and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna.
