“The surgery was successful. He is fine and we will release him after four to five days,” said neuro surgeon S.N. Sinha.

“There were two fractures in the zygomatic bone (located between ear and jaw) which have been set right by inserting metal screw and plate. He has to take rest for a month and can then take the field,” said Sinha.

Nabi was hit by the missile after violence erupted over a red card shown to Mohun Bagan’s Nigerian striker Okoli Odafa towards the close of the first half.

Nabi had to be hospitalised and given multiple stitches Sunday and a scan revealed the fractures.

The match had to be called off as Mohun Bagan refused to take the field in the second half, citing lack of safety of the players after Nabi’s injury.
