Lok Sabha adjourned till Thursday over coal blocks

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Lok Sabha was Wednesday adjourned till Thursday after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) members disrupted proceedings and did not allow the house to function, demanding action on alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks.

BSP members had approached Speaker Meira Kumar’s podium to raise the issue during question hour earlier in what seems to be a pressure tactic on the UPA government to get the bill on reservations in job promotions for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes passed in the Rajya Sabha.

The speaker earlier adjourned the house till noon. The ruckus continued when the house met again and Congress MP Francisco Sardinha, who was in the chair, adjourned the house till 2 p.m. When the house reconvened, it was again adjourned till 3 p.m. and later for the day as similar scenes continued.

The Congress has said it is committed to the bill, which is being staunchly opposed by the Samajwadi Party.
