Chandigarh : The Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday granted bail to a superintendent of Chandigarh Police, suspended on the charge of taking a bribe from another police officer.
Desh Raj Singh, a young Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs.1 lakh at his residence here in October. He was arrested by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team.
Earlier, a CBI special court had rejected his bail plea. He then moved the high court.
According to CBI, Singh had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.5 lakh from Anokh Singh, station house officer of Sector 26, for giving a favourable report in five departmental inquiries initiated against him.
The CBI also procured as evidence voice scripts of a purported conversation between the accused IPS officer and the police station chief.
