New Delhi : India has a total of 173,690 Bharat Nirman volunteers to facilitate delivery of public services under government programmes to rural households, parliament was told Thursday.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla, however, told the Rajya Sabha that their impact had not been assessed so far.
The maximum volunteers were in Tamil Nadu (38,672) followed by Andhra Pradesh (29,581), Rajasthan (23,023), Uttar Pradesh (17,569) and Gujarat (12,950).
