Teachers should create knowledge-based society: Jayalalithaa

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Thursday urged teachers to create a knowledge-based society and also mould their students to have confidence to face any difficult situation.

Speaking at a function to hand over appointment orders to over 20,000 newly recruited teachers in the state here, she said: “Teaching profession is not just about teaching students the subjects. It is a profession that inculcates discipline, culture, general knowledge, and spirituality in students.”

She said for the first time in the state’s history, the government has allocated Rs.14,553 crore to school education department in this year’s budget.

Jayalalithaa said teachers should identify the talent that each student possess and added that the parents should not thrust their wards to take up particular stream of study.

She also distributed uniforms, colour pencils, geometry boxes, school bags, and foot wear in a scheme that would benefit around 9.2 million students in the state.
