Lawyers in the districts of Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Aligarh, Hathras and Agra have been making the demand for some three decades.

Around 40 buses and countless private vehicles will head to Delhi early Thursday, according to lawyer leaders.

“Lawyers from Mathura and Vrindavan will join the protest,” senior advocate Anil Sharma told IANS.

For a fortnight now, groups of lawyers have fanned out in neighbouring towns to drum up support for what they say is a long overdue reform that will bring judiciary closer to the people.

All political parties here have come out in support of the demand. Local chambers of commerce and trade associations are backing the lawyers.

The ruling Samajwadi Party has passed the buck to the central government, saying it had no role in continuing a high court bench.
