New Delhi : In the wake of the gang-rape of the 23-year-old woman who now struggles for life in a hospital here, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Wednesday met top Delhi Police officials.
This meeting came a day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote to him, demanding urgent action to improve the security of “daughters, sisters and mothers”.
Law and order in the national capital is controlled directly by the union home ministry.
Shinde met Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma – under whose jurisdiction the area where the crime occurred falls – and other top government and police officers.
“I have just met the police chief and authorities and the home secretary. We have taken some decisions, but will not be able to disclose anything right now because parliament is in session. I will be making a statement in parliament,” Shinde told reporters after the meeting.
The brutal rape and torture occurred Sunday night when the woman and her friend after watching a movie boarded a private bus at Munirka in south Delhi to go to Dwarka in west Delhi. The woman was beaten up and raped by at least six men inside the moving bus. Her friend was beaten up too.
Four men have been arrested, police said.
