New Delhi : A 22-year-old man booked for rioting here could be confined to police custody if he does not pay Rs.10,000 for bail.
Nafees Ahmad, booked along with eight others for violence near India Gate Sunday, has pleaded innocence but he cannot afford to pay for bail “I don’t have the money,” mechanic Ahmad told IANS.
He said police arrested him while he was going to join a protest. “They stopped me when I reached India Gate Sunday afternoon and forcibly took me into their vehicle and brought me to Tilak Marg police station,” said Ahmad.
He was released Monday morning along with others on a personal bond from the court and asked to report Wednesday with surety bond money.
Ahmed, however, has failed to get the sum and the court has now given him two more days. He will be sent to police custody if he fails to arrange the bail money.
