Kolkata : The Trinamool Congress is set to induct an independent legislator who defeated last year the Trinamool candidate with Congress backing.
Hamidul Rehman won from Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district.
“We have heard that Hamidul has got an offer to join Trinamool. He has also been offered a ministerial berth,” Congress MP Deepa Dasmunsi told IANS.
It was Dasmunsi who helped Rehman to defeat the Trinamool.
Rehman alleged that the Congress was not interested in the development in his area.
“I am in touch with both Congress and Trinamool leaders. The Congress has offered me the post of state level general secretary. Trinamool has said it will carry out several developmental work in my area. Development of my constituency is more important. Unfortunately, Congress has no interest in that,” Rehman told IANS.
The Congress has time and again accused Trinamool of trying to weaken it in the state by luring Congress leaders and workers with the promises of plum posts and perks.
Dasmunsi, who has bitter relations with Trinamool chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleged that the offer made to Rehman was also a part of Trinamool’s larger game plan of weakening the Congress.
“It is nothing but a tactics to destroy the Congress. But they won’t succeed. On this issue everything depends on Hamidul, whether he will stay with us or get lured by a ministerial berth,” she added.
