The second edition of the annual roadshow that began Feb 3 in Mumbai culminated here after stops in Bangalore and Chennai.

Representatives from Oman’s leading hospitality and travel industry interacted with travel agents here to promote the country as a year-long destination.

“Our last show in 2011 was very successful. Keeping in mind the number of Indians now travelling around the world, India is definitely an important market,” Haitham M. Al-Ghasani, Director of Tourism, Promotion and Awareness, told IANS.

He was quick to add that Oman was not for the masses.

“We are not promoting nightclubs or shopping in high end malls. Although we have the best brands, we don’t need to promote them because we have the beautiful natural landscape and culture.

“Oman is not for the masses but for the mature and evolved traveller,” he added.

According to Al-Ghasani, Oman was a safe destination too.

“Moreover, it is a short haul destination. And due to the presence of a large Indian community, the Indian traveller will feel at home,” he said.

According to Al-Ghasani, 1.87 lakh Indian tourists visited Oman in 2011.
