Thiruvananthapuram : Sarojini Balanandan, a leader of the CPI-M, Friday broke down after she realized that she had been shunted out of the 84-member Kerala state committee.
The 74-year-old was seen wiping her tears in front of the CPI-M state headquarters as she waited for a taxi to take her home in Kochi, witnesses said.
Sarojini Balanandan is the widow of E. Balanandan, who was a politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
“CPI-M is a male dominated party. I never thought Pinarayi Vijayan would be so cruel.
“When the news came on TV that I am not in the state committee, I did not believe it… I am shocked ,” she told the media.
Vijayan said she was one of the five state committee members who was not included this time because of poor health.
Sarojini said she was in perfect health. The new state committee includes nine women.
