Ten injured in grenade attack at Imran’s rally

By IANS,

Islamabad : Ten people, including four police personnel, were injured in a grenade attack and firing at a rally of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan in Swabi area of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Friday.

Imran, increasingly emerging as the central piece in Pakistan’s politics, escaped unhurt as he had already left the venue when the attack occurred.

According to the Geo News, a police vehicle was targeted with two hand grenades following a rally of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally. Four police officers and six civilians were injured in the attack.

Police opened retaliatory fire following the explosions. The area was cordoned off and a bomb disposal squad reached the site.

Imran, who heads the Tehreek-e-Insaf, later said he was unhurt and safe, as the attack took place after he had already left the rally’s venue.
