Tehran : The Iranian Navy has added two homemade submarines to its naval fleet, the official media reported Friday.
The light Ghadir-class submarines are designed and produced by Iranian experts, Xinhua quoted Iran’s state-run Press TV as saying.
The submarines will enhance the country’s naval capabilities, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.
The Ghadir submarines, first unveiled in 2007, are capable of launching torpedoes and operating in shallow waters. The 120-tonne vessel can conduct prolonged coastal missions.
