Bangladesh journalists protest couple’s killing

Dhaka : Bangladeshi journalists Sunday warned of waging a movement for the resignation of the home minister if the killers of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were not arrested.

Hundreds of journalists formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka to protest the gory murders, the Daily Star reported.

Sarowar, a news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Runi, a senior reporter for ATN Bangla, were stabbed to death in their posh West Rajabazar flat in the capital Saturday.

Members of different journalists’ associations, including Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Reporters Unity, Dhaka Union of Journalists, Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh, expressed their condemnation of the brutal killing.

Leaders of the associations demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, and warned Home Minister Shahara Khatun of raising a tougher movement if the murderers were not arrested.
