Panaji : British Indian origin MP Keith Vaz said he will speak to the parents of student J. Praveen Reddy, who was critically injured in a brawl at a party in London, but stressed there was nothing to fear for Indian students in his country.
Speaking to reporters here Monday, Vaz, a six-time Labour MP from Leicester, said it was necessary to pursue the investigation into Reddy’s assault and the death of Anuj Bidve, another Indian student shot dead in Manchester last year, till the end.
“I am going to speak to his (Praveen Reddy) parents… What’s extremely important is that we ensure that we get to the bottom of the facts of what happened in this case,” Vaz said, adding that the circumstances between Bidve’s death and the assault on Reddy were completely different.
“We can only find out what happened in the Bidve case when the trial takes place. What went on in the mind of this man who just went up to Anuj and shot him.
“As far as the second case is concerned, I think it is very important to establish facts. Because there seems to have been a private party and not a public occurrence and there seem to have been people of Indian origin at the party,” Vaz said.
According to media reports, Reddy is currently admitted to the Royal London hospital after he suffered from critical stab injuries, while three persons of Indian origin have been already arrested in connection with the brutal assault last Thursday.
Vaz further said that over the last five years, Britain was home to nearly 187,000 Indian students and that there was no cause of alarm for the Indian community living there.
“We have had 187,000 Indian students in last five year years. It is the biggest single group (of students) along with China. It’s a natural place for Indian students to come to,” he said.
