The CBI moved a petition in the special court dealing with the CBI cases seeking custody of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Y. Srilakshmi and former director of mines V.D. Rajagopal. Both officials are in jail in an illegal mining case involving former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy.

The investigating agency sought the court’s permission to question both the accused in Chanchalguda Central Jail where they are lodged. The court adjourned the hearing to Feb 16.

The CBI is likely to question the officials with regard to the allotment of mines to two cement companies which allegedly invested in the firms owned by Jaganmohan Reddy.

The federal agency questioned an official and investor in Jagan’s companies.

The CBI sleuths recorded the statement of an official of Hyderabad Metro Rail with regard to the permissions granted to some companies in his previous capacity as joint director of municipal administration department.

The investigating agency also questioned an investor in Jagati Publications Private Limited (JPPL) owned by Jagan, MP from Kadapa. Representatives of the two cement companies were also questioned.

In another development, the CBI court extended till Feb 21 the judicial custody of Vijay Sai Reddy, a close aide of Jagan.

Vijay Sai Reddy, the vice-president of JPPL, is the only arrest made in the case so far since the CBI registered a case against Jagan and 72 others in August last year following directions from the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

According to the CBI, Jagan allegedly conspired with his father and then chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy to roll out public assets in the form of mining licences, special economic zones, ports and real estate permissions to unscrupulous investors who pumped in money into his companies on a quid-pro-quo basis.
