Jharkhand, railways sign MOU

New Delhi : The Jharkhand government and railway ministry Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for six railway projects in the state.

A press statement said: “For the railway projects both the railway and Jharkhand government will share 50 percent each.” Of the six project, five are ongoing railway projects and one is a new project.

Jharkhand’s share which was 66 percent in the five railway projects has been reduced to 50 percent for rest work cost. Railways are executing six projects (five new lines and one gauge conversion project) on cost sharing basis with the government of Jharkhand. One of the projects Deoghar-Dumka has already been completed and the remaining five projects are in various stages of progress.

For the sixth project, Jharkhand has agreed for sharing 50 percent cost of Hansdiha-Godda new line project (30 km). This project is scheduled to be completed in a period of four years by March 2016.

The MoU was signed in New Delhi in the presence of the Minister of Railways Dinesh Trivedi and the Chief Minster of Jharkhand Arjun Munda.

The MoU was signed by Chairman, Railway Board, Vinay Mittal and Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, S.K.Choudhary on Tuesday evening in New Delhi.

Jharkhand has assured 50 percent funds for balance cost of the project and adequate security for execution of the project whereas Railways assures completion of ongoing projects by March 2013 except Koderma-Tilaiya for which forestry clearance is yet to be received.
