Islamabad : A minister has said that electricity cuts would end by 2014-15 in power-starved Pakistan, a few days after his colleague announced that outages would end overnight.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah said electricity would be supplied at Rs.5 per unit in the next two or three years, reported Geo News. The current electricity cost is Rs.18 per unit.
Addressing a public gathering in Faisalabad, the minister claimed that loadshedding would end by 2014-15.
Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar had announced on the floor of the National Assembly that there would be no more power cuts from Feb 7, 2012.
The News International had then mocked at the claim: “When our dear minister tells us there won’t be any loadshedding from tomorrow, we’re very, very suspicious.”
Pakistan’s power shortfall has reached 5,000 MW. The country generates 13,250 MW against a peak demand of over 18,000 MW.
