New Delhi : A case of dowry death has been lodged against a pilot with a private airlines after his wife died in hospital after her attempt to commit suicide was foiled, police said Sunday.
“The incident was reported Feb 15 when Chavi, in her early 20s, tried to hang herself in her room after closing the door. However, her husband Shravan Rastogi broke open the door and took her to a nearby hospital,” said a senior police official.
The couple lived in Bharat Nagar area of north Delhi.
Police said Chavi was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit, where she died on the evening of Feb 16.
According to police, Shravan and Chavi had got married two years ago.
“Chavi is from Chandigarh and her parents have complained that she was being tortured and harassed by Shravan and his parents for dowry,” said the official.
“We have filed a case a dowry against Shravan and his parents but it is too early to say anything,” he added.
Asked whether Chavi had an arugment with Shravan, the officer said: “We are piecing the sequence of events together and the investigation is on in the case.”
