Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Kishan Kapoor Tuesday requested the central government to provide funds for setting up another textile park in the state.
Speaking at a meeting organised by commerce and industry ministry in New Delhi, he said the textile park recently sanctioned by the textile ministry in Una district had got a good response, an official statement said here.
“The state has immense potential of textile industries. One more park should be set up in Kangra district,” Kapoor added.
More than 4,000 weavers have been involved in traditional handloom and handicrafts industries in the state.
Kapoor asked the central government to provide state-of-the-art equipments to the weavers, open depot for raw material and skill upgradation and facilities for training to the wearers.
About 8,700 rural families of six districts have been involved in sericulture, producing 180 metric tonne cocoon annually, he added.
