BJP reaching out to Christian voters in Goa

By IANS,

Panaji : The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) Wednesday again highlighted the importance of Goa’s Christian population in the March 3 assembly polls.

“Ever since I took over as secretary in charge of Goa, our main focus was to reach out to the 23 percent vibrant Christian community here. It was my endeavour to meet fathers (Catholic priests) and teachers and members of the community all over Goa during my visits here,” party secretary Aarti Mehra said.

Mehra was quick to add that the effort was aimed at dispelling the doubts Christians in Goa had about the BJP.

Mehra said that the proof of BJP’s commitment to the minority community was the direct and in some cases indirect support of the party to eight Catholic candidates in the forthcoming assembly polls.

The BJP is taking on the combine of the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) coalition.

“We are directly or indirectly supporting eight minority candidates in Goa,” Mehra said, adding that the party’s strategy of consciously reaching out to the minority community in Goa was “paying off”.
