Bhubaneswar : Odisha has formed two new police units to deal with specialized crimes, an official said Sunday.
The Special Task Force (STF) and Economic Offences Wing (EoW) started functioning from Saturday at state capital Bhubaneswar under the Crime Branch of the state police, a senior official of the state home department told IANS.
While STF will deal with organized crimes, EoW will handle economic-related offences.
STF will investigate cases relating to inter district gangs involved in offences like tender fixing, extortion, robbery, drug peddling, kidnapping, trade of human organs, illicit supply of arms and ammunition, he said.
The EoW will monitor cases of economic offences including bank frauds, chit fund frauds, land and building rackets, vanishing of companies, insurance frauds, and cases relating to share and security bonds, he said.
Both the units will functions under the additional director general of police of the criminal investigation department of the crime branch, added the official.
