Two ‘rapists’ lynched in West Bengal

By IANS,

Egra (West Bengal) : Two people were lynched by angry villagers after they raped a woman at Egra in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, police said Sunday.

“Two persons who raped a woman were caught by the locals and thrashed which resulted in their deaths. The bodies have been sent for post mortem. Locals and the said victim are being questioned. No arrests have been made so far for the incident which happened late Saturday night,” an officer manning the Egra police control room said.

The duo, in their early 30s, reportedly abducted the woman from her house late Saturday night and forced themselves on her at a nearby ground.

After the woman raised an alarm, villagers immediately gathered and beat the men to death, a police source said.

“The men were said to be smitten by the woman and had been regularly propositioning her. Enraged by her refusals, they wanted to teach her a lesson,” added the source.

No police complaint has so far been lodged for either the rape attempt or the lynching.
