Niramala Devi alias Kanta alias Salma was involved in more than 100 cases and was arrested Saturday on a tip off from outside the Saket Court Complex where she was meeting a client.

The accused was part of the ‘Munna Jamanti Gang’ which is operating from Tihar Jail and has assisted hardened criminals in getting bails by furnishing fake surety bonds. Once released, the criminals never attend courts and indulge in criminal activities again, said police.

Nirmala confessed to having appeared as surety with forged documents in various Delhi courts including Tis Hazari (north Delhi), Karkardooma (east Delhi) and Saket (south Delhi), said police.

According to police, Devi started working with an advocate in the Tiz Hazari courts in 2008 and came in contact with Manoj who was also working with an advocate but was also a part of the racket along with Ram Avtar, Pawan Bengali, Manmeet Singh and some advocates.

Devi joined the gang and her two fake identities in the names of Kanta – a resident of Patel Nagar and Salma — residing in Hari Nagar Ashram were created.

The gang is headed by Manoj who is operating from inside Tihar Jail. Devi would visit him every Tuesday and Thursday to take instructions.

“She confessed to giving fake sureties in more than 100 cases in various courts in Delhi and Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh,” said an official.
