Traffic deaths decline in UAE

Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw an about 13 percent decline in the number of people killed in traffic accidents in 2011 as compared to 2010.

According to statistical reports by interior ministry’s general administration of traffic coordination (GATC), during 2011, it registered 720 deaths caused by traffic accidents, against 826 deaths in 2010. The death rates went down from 10 per 100,000 of the population to 8.4 within the same period.

Traffic fatalities among Emirati citizens also saw a significant drop in 2011 by 28.8 percent. Traffic accidents fell by 12.3 percent to 6,700 from 7,642 in 2010.
