Indian, Pakistani officials discuss women’s issues

Islamabad : Officials from India and Pakistan have met in New York on the sidelines of the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women to discuss women’s issues, a media report here said Tuesday.

Fiza Batool Gilani, Pakistan’s goodwill ambassador for women’s empowerment, held meeting with Neela Gangadharan, secretary in India’s ministry of women and child development, Online news agency reported.

The two sides discussed various issues related to the rights of women in both countries as well as relevant social reforms to improve them.

Gilani spoke about the steps taken by the Pakistan government for political, economic and social empowerment of women in the past few years.

On her part, Gangadharan highlighted the efforts made by India to improve the socio-economic conditions of its women and children.

She also expressed India’s desire to work closely with Pakistani institutions for the rights of women in order to benefit from mutual experiences.
