General Motors showcases two new vehicles

New Delhi : US auto major General Motors Friday unveiled two vehicles – a premium hatchback Sail and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) concept – under its Chevrolet brand for the Indian market at the Auto Expo here.

“The two products have been tailored for the local market conditions and the need of local consumers for economical, user-friendly personal transportation,” said Lowell Paddock, president and managing director, GM Motors India.

To be launched in both petrol and diesel variants, both the vehicles, developed with Chinese partner Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation(SAIC), are expected to go on sale later this year.

P. Balendran, vice president, corporate affairs, said the hatchback would be commercially rolled out by June-July and the MPV by the end of the year.

The hatchback would be launched with a 1.2 litre petrol engine. It would be made available later with a 1.3 diesel engine. The MPV would first come with a 1.4 litre petrol engine followed by a diesel variant.

GM had unveiled two other vehicles, Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 and Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 AT, on the opening day of the trade show Thursday.
