Thiruvananthapuram : Around 500 employees of Air India in Kerala are having a tough time as the ailing national carrier has not paid their salaries for the last three months.
“We are all having a tough time, because since March last year salaries are not getting credited as it used to happen. The last time we received our salary was for the month of October and the productivity linked incentive (PLI) has dried up since July last year,” said an Air India official to IANS.
PLI accounts to as high as 20 percent of the monthly salary depending on factors like performance of the airline with regards to operation on time and also the bookings.
Many expected that things would turn out good after the brand new Air India’s aircraft maintenance unit was commissioned here last month for the 21 aircraft owned by Air India Express. But that has not happened.
“Being without salary for a few months ruins the family atmosphere. Who does not have a housing and vehicle loan these days? If things don’t improve, then it is going to be really bad,” said an employee.
