By TCN News,

Aligarh: Resentment is brewing among Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) community over the orders of the North Central Railway’s DRM, Allahabad Mr. Harendra Rao to cancel the allotment of room for AMU. DRM Allahabad was on an inspection of the Aligarh Railway station. He objected on a room provided to the Proctorial Staff of the university and remarked “that no other university has been extended facility of a room, why AMU?” He ordered to cancel the allotment of the room which led to fast reactions among students and Staffs of the University.

The apex body of the AMU community Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) Aligarh held an emergency meeting at Media Centre Aligarh to analyze and ponder over the remark of the DRM, and to chalk out future strategy. The MBMC has submitted a memorandum to the Union Railway Minister, Shri Dinesh Trivedi through Mr. Manish Chauhan, District Magistrate, Aligarh citing historical and national character of the AMU and detailing the strength of the residential students and staff; thus demanding to call the DRM, Allahabad for an explanation, on his remarks and unnecessary order. MBMC has alleged that DRM, Harendra Rao has taken the decision to cancel room out of his biased views and in a communal way.

MBMC in its memorandum recalled that the Aligarh Muslim University has been enjoying privileges of a separate petrol station and gas agency for its students and staff apart from a room on railway station from where authorities are able to maintain discipline among students and provide facilities. AMU community accounts for more than fifty percent of revenue generated from Aligarh railway station and the current remark and order of DRM may harm interest of the railways in future as the order will be dealt with as a provocation, said MBMC.

The MBMC has drawn the Union railway minister’s kind attention towards a “Temple” Built on Railway Station premise which has consumed much larger space than the “Room” allotted to the Aligarh Muslim University. Why DRM, Allahabad, Mr. Harendra Rao did not object on the temple when the fact is that no worship place can be constructed on the public land. May we assume that the “orders” of the DRM are the product of his communalized mind?, asked MBMC.

Any way the AMU community made it clear that their intention is not to raise objection on the temple but to draw the union minister’s kind attention towards the communalism practiced by the North Central Railway’s DRM, Allahabad; which is well reflected in the shades of his comment and orders.

The community pointed out that if the allotment of the room is cancelled and if AMU is deprived off its logical and historical right, MBMC will be forced to launch democratic and peaceful movements which they said is much against their own wishes as the minister belongs to a secular political party and the organisation believes that he is a champion secularist.

Talking with media persons, Jasim Mohammad, Secretary, MBMC Aligarh Said that AMU is a Minority Central University with its own historical secular credentials and the remarks of DRM have sent shock waves among AMU community.
