Mulayam invokes Babri to woo Muslims

Lucknow: Flaring up passions, the Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav reiterated that Babri Masjid existed in Ayodhya while no Hindu treated the place as a mandir.

Yadav was addressing a gathering of Pasmanda Muslim Samaj (PMS)-an organisation of backward Muslims who had converged at party office to extend support to his outfit in the elections on Saturday.

“Till the court gives its verdict in the case, I will treat it as a masjid. The masjid was demolished but a mandir was not constructed,” said Yadav amidst thunderous applause of Muslims.

Yadav recalled that incident when he had ordered firing on karsewaks as a chief minister of the state. “Chandrashekhar was Prime Minister (PM) and he asked me as to how I will save the masjid. I was confident of saving the masjid. I ordered firing else masjid would have been demolished which would have also demolished the confidence of Muslims,” he said.

Continuing further, Yadav remarked: “If there is no masjid what will be the identity of Muslims. Muslims have said that they will accept court’s verdict but Hindus did not say the same.”

Taking a dig at the 4.5 percent reservation to OBC Muslims, Yadav remarked: “It is cheating by Congress. It is for all six minority communities within OBC. Muslims deserve more as reservation. We recruited nearly 14.6 percent muslims in police and PAC recruitment during our regime. But these Muslim policemen are not given field postings”. He also mentioned that Muslims have sacrificed the maximum while several of them lost their lives in Indo-Pak war.

Over Congress gestures Mulayam claimed that the policy and intention of the government is not clean. “If intention is good even bad policies can be carried forward. But both the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government have bad intentions,” he said. The yadav chieftain claimed that some people have made politics dirty and have given bad name to all leaders.

Mulayam urged the audience for a clear mandate in assembly elections so that he can also contest 2014 elections with confidence. “Once we have share in Delhi, be assured that many of your demands will be fulfilled within 24 hours,” he said.

Earlier, PMS Chief, Anees Mansoori along with his supporters joined the party. Pledging support to Mulayam he stated that the backward Muslims are solidly behind the yadav satrap.

Mansoori later stated that his joining is without any deal. “Though I had asked for ticket but it is too late. Still we have submitted a list of 10 seats and if our candidates are strong, Mulayam has assured us representation. But it is not a contention anymore,” said Mansoori.
