Bank of India official arrested for bribery

Mumbai: A senior official of the state-run Bank of India was nabbed red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000, the Central Bureau of Investigation said here Saturday.

Senior Manager Ganesh C. Das of the bank’s Mumbai main branch was trapped by CBI sleuths from the CST Station Fridayevening taking the bribe from a financial consultant.

A complaint had been lodged against Das three days ago that he had been demanding bribes of five percent of subsidy claims filed by the financial consultant on behalf of various clients.

Das was produced Saturday before a Special CBI judge who sent him to the agency’s custody till July 10.

After nabbing Das, the CBI raided his office in south Mumbai and residential premises at Titwala in Thane district and recovered Rs.2.50 million cash and 150 gms of gold coins.

At the time of his arrest, the CBI recovered another Rs.100,000 from Das kept in envelopes.

Das was transferred to Mumbai from Kolkata last year.
