Amman: Jordanian Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh has said that about 131,000 Syrians have entered Jordan since 2011 when the unrest started in Syria, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
“We deal with this issue from a humanitarian aspect, but at the same time all have a responsibility to protect Jordan from any violations,” Xinhua quoted the premier as saying during a meeting with representative of the country’s human rights council.
“The influx of Syrians places a pressure on Jordan’s already limited resources,” said Tarawneh.
Jordan did not officially opened a camp for Syrian refugees. But NGOs across the Arabian Kingdom have been leading efforts to provide the Syrians with accommodation, food and healthcare services.
The Jordanian government has repeatedly appealed for help from the international community to provide services for the Syrians in its country.
