Foreign tourist arrivals on the rise in India

New Delhi: The number of foreign tourists visiting India in the first half of 2012 increased by 7.4 percent, the tourism ministry said Tuesday adding that foreign exchange earnings had also risen.

“Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) during the period January-June 2012 was 32.37 lakh with a growth of 7.4 percent as compared to the FTAs of 30.15 lakh during January-June 2011, a growth of 10.8 percent over the corresponding period in 2010,” said a statement issued by the ministry.

June 2012 saw 4.32 lakh tourist arrivals as compared to 4.12 lakh during June 2011 and 3.85 lakh in June 2010, it added.

Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) from tourism also grew by 24 percent between January-June 2012 reaching Rs.43,760 crore as compared to Rs.35,163 crore during the same period in 2011.
