Chennai : Former DMK legislator M. Rajkumar was remanded to 14 days custody by a court here Friday for allegedly raping and murdering a 15-year-old girl who worked in his home as a domestic help.
According to Perambalur police, Rajkumar surrendered to them Thursday night and was produced before the court Friday. He was moved to the Tiruchy central jail.
The police have also arrested two of Rajkumar’s accomplices in the alleged crime.
Perambalur is around 250 km from here.
Hailing from Kerala’s Peermedu in Idduki’s district, the girl C.Sathya was a domestic help at Rajkumar’s residence from June 23.
However, within a few days, Sathya urged her parents to take her back as she did not want to work at Rajkumar’s place.
According to police on June 29, Sathya’s father Chandran was informed over phone from Rajkumar’s residence that Sathya was unwell and was admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy).
Later, the girl’s parents shifted Sathya to Government Hospital in Theni and on July 6, she died in the hospital and the body was taken to their home town, Peermedu.
The girl’s relatives found some injuries on the body and a police complaint was lodged. In the post mortem, it was found that the girl was sexually abused besides traces of poison.
The Peermedu police had registered a complaint against Rajkumar which was forwarded to Perambalur police.
On Thursday, two of Rajkumar’s associates were picked up by the Perambalur police for questioning and later, the former MLA surrendered before the police.
