MP Kunal Ghosh donates one month salary to Islamia Library of Kolkata

Kolkata: The old Islamia Library in Rajabazar area of Kolkata has got help from a Member of Parliament. The library organized a scholarship distribution and felicitation ceremony for meritorious poor Muslim students of the area on 14th July 2012. At the occasion, Member of Rajya Sabha and journalist Kunal Ghosh donated one month salary to the Islamia Library. Besides, an NGO Bengal Citizens Forum donated one lac rupees to the library to help the poor Muslim students.

Islamia Library is not just a library, rather it is helping Muslim students and active in so many social works in Rajabazar and surrounding areas for long time. The library also takes care of slum children to teach them formal education also.

Addressing the function, Kunal Ghosh said he wants to help the poor meritorious Muslim students of this area. “Because they are financially weak and socially backward, we need to help them. Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee is also willing to develop this area,” Kunal Ghosh informed the audience and the Islamia Library authorities.

Islamia Library has a free reading room with knowledgeable book and textbooks for students. It is also running a coaching centre and computer training institute.

Deputy Mayor of Kolkata Ms Farzana Alam, Member of Parliament of this area Mr. Sudip Banerjee, Member of Rajya Sabha and Executive Editor of Urdu Daily Akhbar-E-Mashriq Mr. Nadim-Ul-Haque, Officer In-charge of Narkeldanga Police Station Piyush Guha were also present at the program.
