New Delhi: The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi on Wednesday sent Jamia Nagar resident Zubair Khan on police remand for two days. Khan, a native of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, was picked from Shaheen Bagh area in Jamia Nagar Tuesday noon for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
The police reportedly told the court that Zubair Khan was picked on tip off and when he was searched, confidential documents and photographs pertaining to Indian army were recovered.
According to an Indian Express report, during interrogation, Zubair Khan has disclosed that he was working for a Pakistan intelligence agency. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police produced him today in the court. The police told the court that they need five days to interrogate him at length to unearth the entire conspiracy and also to identify the persons who supplied him the documents. However, the court granted only two days.
Meanwhile, as the news spread about the arrest, residents of Jamia Nagar came out on street today. They protested against the arrest outside the Jamia Nagar police station. Hundreds of residents also blocked the Delhi-UP highway for four hours demanding his release. Residents said he is innocent and like other Muslim youths he has been framed.
